A Python runtime inside a Rust data generator
Semantic data — names, addresses and the like — was generated by calling out to a Python runtime from a Rust program. It worked. A month of performance work established what it was costing. Ripped out at version 0.5.0 and replaced with a pure-Rust generator.
Nobody said what it cost. Our estimate is ≈ $24,000 — the one month of performance work named in the story, at about $150 an hour, 2021.
